L'Île (2003)

L'Île (The Island) was an urban performance work commissioned for the opening of Lille Cultural Capital of Europe 2004. Audience (or "dreamers") attended alone, embarking on a two hour journey during the course of which they relive the dreams of the inhabitants of Lille, France, recreated in the actual sites of the dreams, at one hundred appointments throughout the city. Gradually they meet other dreamers, and finally converge in the city center in a common dream, to the accompaniment of a chorus of inhabitants. L'Île extends the intimacy and site-specific nature of YOU-The City to a larger audience. The text was created from material gathered from volunteers in Lille, recounting their actual dreams.

L'Île premiered in the city of Lille in December 2003. Excerpts from the original performance can be viewed here.
